ALUMINIUM

Aluminum is a highly versatile and widely used material in laser cutting processes. Its exceptional properties, such as high reflectivity, thermal conductivity, and low melting point, make it particularly suitable for laser cutting applications.

The reflective nature of aluminum requires higher laser power settings, but it also ensures precise and efficient cutting, resulting in clean edges and minimal heat-affected zones. This, along with its lightweight and corrosion-resistant characteristics, makes aluminum a popular choice for a variety of industries, including aerospace, automotive, and electronics, where precision and quality are paramount in laser cutting applications.

STEEL

Mild steel and stainless steel are commonly used materials in laser cutting processes.

Mild steel, also known as carbon steel, is a cost-effective option for laser cutting due to its lower carbon content, making it easier to cut quickly and efficiently. It is widely utilized in various industries for applications such as structural components and sheet metal parts.

In contrast, stainless steel contains chromium, which enhances its corrosion resistance, making it an ideal choice for applications where durability and rust resistance are crucial. Laser cutting stainless steel requires more precise control and adjustments due to its reflective properties, making it a slightly more complex process.

TIMBERS & PLYWOOD

Plywood is a versatile engineered wood product commonly used in laser cutting due to its layered composition, made by bonding thin sheets of wood veneer together with adhesive. This layering makes plywood well-suited for laser cutting because it allows for precise and intricate designs to be cut with minimal charring and clean edges.

The different layers in plywood have varying grain directions, which can be strategically utilized in laser cutting to achieve different visual and structural effects. Timber, on the other hand, refers to solid wood, and it is less commonly used for laser cutting due to its denser and more variable composition.

Where timber does excel is with laser etching where the contrasting darker lines stand out.

MDF

Medium-density fiberboard (MDF) is a versatile and popular material for laser cutting due to its composition of wood fibers and resin, which results in a smooth, dense, and consistent surface that is ideal for precision cutting and engraving.

MDF is a very cost-effective substrate commonly used in various applications such as signage, decorative work and more. When subjected to laser cutting, MDF produces clean and precise edges, and it can be engraved with intricate details, making it an excellent choice for producing intricate designs and prototypes.

Additionally, MDF’s uniform density and lack of grain patterns make it predictable and easy to work with, further enhancing its suitability for laser cutting applications.

ACRYLICS

Acrylic, often referred to as PMMA (Polymethyl Methacrylate), is a versatile and popular material for laser cutting applications.

Its transparency, high impact resistance, and ease of laser processing make it an ideal choice for a wide range of creative and industrial projects.

When subjected to laser cutting, acrylic melts and vaporizes cleanly, producing precise and smooth edges. The laser’s ability to cut intricate designs and fine details in acrylic, along with its compatibility with various thicknesses and colors, makes it a preferred material for producing acrylic signage, displays, architectural models, and custom components in a multitude of industries.

FABRICS & LEATHER

Fabrics and laser cutting have formed a highly innovative and efficient partnership in the textile industry. Laser cutting technology enables precise and intricate cuts on a wide range of fabrics, from delicate silk to rugged denim, with minimal waste and unparalleled accuracy.

By employing a focused laser beam to vaporize or melt the fabric along predetermined paths, designers and manufacturers can create intricate patterns, cutouts, and edges, while simultaneously sealing the fabric’s edges to prevent fraying. This process not only enhances the efficiency of production but also opens up new creative possibilities, making laser cutting an essential tool for achieving precision, customization, and design versatility in the world of fabric-based creations, ranging from fashion to home textiles.

PAPER & CARD

Paper and card materials play a crucial role in laser cutting due to their versatility and precision capabilities.

Laser cutting is a precise and efficient process that employs a focused laser beam to cut, engrave, or score paper and card materials with exceptional accuracy. This technology is particularly well-suited for intricate designs, custom packaging, and artistic applications, as it allows for intricate patterns and fine details.

Moreover, laser cutting minimizes the risk of tearing or fraying in these materials, making it an ideal choice for producing intricate paper and card-based products, including greeting cards, invitations, packaging, and even architectural models.
